Boys Ballet Program

Have you heard about our Boys Ballet Program?

Taught by Eugene Ballet Company professional dancers, classes concentrate on the specific needs of the young male danseur. These energetic classes focus on developing strength, endurance, and flexibility.

Eugene Ballet Academy is a safe space for all movers. We offer a wide range of dance styles available for ages 2-99. We believe that exposure to the arts creates compassionate, open-minded, and creative young people. We also believe in the importance of physical fitness, teamwork, and having an outlet for self-expression. Unfortunately, there are barriers that still exist today that deter young men from joining and staying in dance. Some young men are made to believe that they should just play sports, and that dance is for girls. We could not disagree more, and believe that dance should be available to all.

Our academy population is made up of only 5% boys, though the Eugene Ballet Company is made up of almost 50% men. Our goal is to make ballet more accessible to young men so they have the opportunity to start, and are given the encouragement to stick with it! While boys may take any of our academy classes, we are proud to offer two sections of “boys ballet” where they can focus on specific skills necessary for a young danseur. There is also a sense of camaraderie that develops in a boys only class. With professional male dancers as instructors, young men are given lessons in respect and determination from wonderful role models that can then be later admired on the Hult Center stage. We hope that these classes serve as a gateway for young men to continue with dance, or give them the courage to follow their dreams- no matter what they are!

Beginning Boys Ballet is for young men ages 8+. No experience is necessary! This class is offered on Mondays from 5:15-6:15pm.

Int/Adv Boys Ballet is for young men ages 9+ that have ballet experience. This class is offered on Wednesdays from 4:15-5:15pm.

Dancers new to our program may try out a class for one month at no cost. Beyond that introductory month, we are able to offer scholarships to many young men based on need. This is all made possible because of generous donations from Nadine Batya and Sara Batya.

Thank you for supporting dance for ALL!
