Interplay: A New Collaboration
Eugene Ballet (EB) and the University of Oregon (UO) Department of Dance are proud to announce an exciting collaboration in Spring of 2019—a new performance event bringing dancers and choreographers from each organization to audiences in the intimate environment of the Soreng Theater at the Hult Center.
Premiering March 8–10, Interplay (the way in which two or more things have an effect on each other) will be created from exceptional new and existing works by four UO Dance faculty and three Eugene Ballet artistic staff, combining the talents of UO student dancers and Eugene Ballet principal, company and aspirant dancers.
Interplay has evening performances on Friday, March 8, and Saturday, March 9, and a Sunday matinee on March 10. Each performance is preceded by Ballet Insider, a 30-minute interactive session with the creative team. The program includes:
Whorl—Associate Professor of Dance Walter Kennedy blends the talents of UO and EB dancers set to the music of Christian Cherry, UO Department of Dance Music Director.
Bach-to-Bach—A duet featuring UO dancers and the music of Bach, choreographed by Steven J. Chatfield, Head Chair, UO Department of Dance.
Untitled—A new work for two UO dancers and two EB dancers from Sarah Ebert, UO Instructor of Dance and Eugene Ballet Academy faculty member.
The Surrounding Third—Eugene Ballet Resident Choreographer Suzanne Haag’s recent exciting choreography set to Samuel Barber’s music, featuring four EB dancers.
Don Quixote Grand Pas de Deux—This crowd-pleasing classical work will be staged on EB dancers by Associate Artistic Director Jennifer Martin, after Marius Petipa’s choreography.
Common Ground—Artistic Director Toni Pimble revives the sensual pas de deux from her contemporary ballet commissioned by Atlanta Ballet in 1991, and set to original music composed by James Oliverio.
Between Your Eyes and You—The program concludes with an immersive new work created by Haag and Shannon Mockli, Associate Professor of Dance, using music from Maurice Ravel’s Miroirs (Mirrors) and spoken word. The 25-minute piece will showcase a large ensemble comprising Eugene Ballet and the UO Department of Dance.
Tickets are $40 – $60 and $15 youth and college tickets are available.
