2020-2021 Season Announcement

The stage is dark, the seats are empty. The weekend that our performances of Heaven and Earth were originally scheduled for passed in silence. We know our community is facing unprecedented challenges right now, yet our hopes for the applause of the future are still present and we can’t wait to perform for you again.

Our 2020–2021 season begins with the production that would have completed our 41st season, Heaven and Earth. We’re thrilled that this incredible triple bill featuring a world premiere, a guest choreographer, and Orchestra Next’s live percussion ensemble will be on stage in September. Learn more about the performances here.

In November, our original season line-up begins with Cinderella, the classic fairytale ballet with all the emotion and drama you’d expect, and then some. Prokofiev’s thrilling score played live by Orchestra Next, and the grand sets, glittering costumes, and glitz of the ballroom create an unforgettable telling of this timeless romance.

Of course, December wouldn’t be December without a trip to the Land of the Sweets in The Nutcracker. Clara and the Sugar Plum Fairy are joined onstage by hundreds of young dancers, the Cantabile Collective Choir, and Orchestra Next’s professional and student musicians playing Tchaikovsky’s beloved score live at all four performances.

In January, we return to the Hult Center with one of our most requested productions, Dark Side of the Moon, with live music on stage by Eugene’s own Floydian Slips. This electrifying ballet explores the mysteries of Pink Floyd’s music with contemporary choreography and stunning expressions of the human condition.

To top off our regular season, we’re creating a brand new full-length ballet from a classic Shakespearean tale, with a twist. Artistic Director Toni Pimble reimagines Taming of the Shrew in a whimsical world of steampunk sets and fashions, with composer Louise Farrenc’s music played live by Orchestra Next.

Finally, we’re continuing our mixed repertory collaboration with the University of Oregon’s School of Music and Dance (SOMD) in May 2021. Our third iteration of Interplay features choreography by Toni Pimble, Resident Choreographer Suzanne Haag, and UO Phyllis and Andrew Berwick Dean and Professor of Dance Sabrina Madison-Cannon set on both Eugene Ballet and SOMD dancers.

This season promises to be our most ambitious yet, with the perfect mix of classic and contemporary ballet, drama and comedy, live music, and new works. To celebrate, we’re offering a special season discount, PLUS discounts on all add-on productions. Season subscriptions are available starting on April 27, 2020.
