Contemporary Division

Levels 5 & 6

The Contemporary Division is optional for students in Level 5 & 6. This division is designed for upper-level students who wish to pursue a more focused curriculum and intensive training in the Contemporary realm. Students will experience more diverse coursework that places less emphasis on classical ballet, especially pointe work. This track is geared toward the dancer that wishes to develop increased self-expression, improvisational skills, and creativity

*Placement is required for all levels in the professional division, and advancement is by annual evaluation.*

Level 5 Contemporary

Students at this level can expect to train 4 days a week in various dance genres: classical ballet, contemporary ballet, jazz, modern, contemporary, and conditioning. The curriculum provides students with the necessary training for a professional dance career or entry into a college dance program.  Level 5 Contemporary dancers can expect the difficulty, length of exercise, and number of repetitions to increase. Students will experience more diverse coursework that places less emphasis on classical ballet, especially pointe work. This track is geared toward the dancer that wishes to develop more self-expression, improvisational skills, and creativity. Given the amount of material, students may need multiple years in level 5 to master the necessary components.

Ballet Technique – Choose 2 
  • Ballet Technique/Pointe – Monday 5:15-6:45pm
  • Ballet Technique – Tuesday 5:15-6:45pm
  • Ballet Technique (Levels 5/6) – Friday 5:00-6:15pm
  • Ballet Technique – Saturday 11:30am-1:00pm
Jazz
  • Saturday 9:30-10:30am
Modern OR Lyrical
  • Modern – Saturday 10:45-11:30am
  • Lyrical – Tuesday 4:30-5:15pm
Stretch/Flex
  • Saturday 9:00-9:30am

Level 5 Contemporary requires students to take 2 Elective classes in addition to their level requirements. Students can take the following classes so long as their schedule allows.

  • Leaps and Turns – Monday 7:00-7:45pm
  • *Acro (Level 5/6) – Monday 7:45-8:45pm
  • Lyrical – Tuesday 4:30-5:!5pm
  • Hip Hop (Level 5/6) – Wednesday 6:45-7:30pm
  • EBY Classical Apprentice 2 – Thursday 5:15-7:00pm
  • *Tap (Level 5/6) – Friday 7:15-8:00pm
  • Modern – Saturday 10:45-11:30am
  • EBY Touring

Optional Classes
These classes do not count as an elective

  • Stretch/Flex – Saturday 9:00-9:30am

Level 6 Contemporary

  • Ballet Technique – Tuesday 5:15-6:45pm
  • Ballet Technique – Wednesday 4:15-5:45pm
  • Ballet Technique (Levels 5/6) Saturday 11:30am-1:00pm

Level 6 Contemporary requires students to take 4 Elective classes in addition to their level requirements. Students can take the following classes so long as their schedule allows.

  • *Acro (Level 5/6) – Monday 7:45-8:45pm
  • Modern – Tuesday 7:45-9:00pm
  • Pointe – Wednesday 5:45-6:30pm
  • Hip Hop (Level 5/6) – Wednesday 6:45-7:30pm
  • EBY Classical Senior – Thursday 5:15-7:00pm
  • Contemporary Ballet (highly encouraged) – Friday 5:00-6:15pm
  • Pointe – Friday 6:15-7:00pm
  • *Tap (Level 5/6) – Friday 7:15-8:00pm
  • Lyrical – Saturday 9:30-10:30am
  • **Jazz – Saturday 10:30-11:15am
  • EBY Touring

**Students are required to attend Stretch/Flex prior to Jazz on Saturday
